sketches and drawings

Drawing is very important to artists and for some a compulsive occupation. Although many of my drawings are done for fun, as a change of direction occasionally and sometimes as a different way to approach a portrait, as in 'The Jazz Man', the process still remains of primary importance as an undelying necessity to my paintings.

The sketches of people shown here are normally done as preparatory work to understanding a face before painting a portrait, but often these little preparatory sketches hold a greater appeal for some clients.
